A skilled, calm approach to recovery

Post-op aftercare should feel safe — not aggressive. Manual Lymph Drainage can support comfort, fluid movement, and early healing after surgery without deep pressure or forceful techniques.

My sessions are intentionally gentle and tailored to your stage of healing, incision placement, swelling level, and your surgeon’s protocol.

What you can expect:

  • Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist (CMLDT), trained in the Vodder method

  • Clear aftercare guidance around hydration, gentle movement, and compression support

  • A collaborative approach that respects your surgeon’s guidelines 🌿

Timing + what the early weeks look like

When can I start?

Many clients begin within the first week post-op (sometimes sooner), depending on your surgeon’s instructions and your specific procedure. If you’re unsure, ask your surgeon when they recommend starting post-op lymphatic drainage.

Booking ahead (highly recommended)

For best results, reserve your first 2–3 weeks of appointments as soon as you have your surgery date. Post-op lymphatic drainage is often most helpful when sessions are scheduled close together during the early healing window, especially when swelling, tightness, and discomfort are most active.

If your surgeon delays clearance or adjusts your timeline, no problem — we can shift your appointments accordingly. It’s much easier to move reserved appointments than to find last-minute availability once swelling and discomfort peak.

A typical schedule (example)

Every body heals differently, but a common pattern is:

  • Week 1–2: 2–3 sessions/week

  • Week 3–4: 1–2 sessions/week

  • Week 5+: weekly or as needed for residual swelling, comfort, and tissue support

As your healing progresses, your care may gradually shift beyond early-stage lymphatic drainage to include gentle fibrosis massage and scar tissue massage when appropriate. These techniques can help support softer, more mobile tissue, reduce areas of restriction, and optimize your overall post-surgical outcome.

Post-Op FAQ

Does it hurt?
No—post-op MLD is intentionally gentle. You should feel supported, not “worked on.”

How soon will I see results?
Many clients notice changes in comfort or swelling after the first session, but recovery is cumulative and varies by procedure and individual healing. FOR BEST RESULTS, I recommend 2-3 sessions for the first 1-2 weeks of aftercare.

Do I need surgeon clearance?
If your surgeon has given you a post-op protocol, we’ll follow it. If you’re uncertain about timing, it’s best to ask your surgeon when to start.

What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing. If you have compression garments, bring or wear them as your surgeon recommends.

Can you work directly on incisions?
Not in early healing. We work around areas appropriately and progress based on healing stage and clearance.

How many sessions do I need?
Most post-op clients benefit from a short series (often 6–12) spaced closely together. We’ll tailor it to your swelling and timeline.

“Her technique is outstanding. I was recommended by my doctor to do lymphatic massages after my surgery. Every doctor’s visit I was told my recovery was progressing amazingly. I owe it to Laura. It’s clear she has deep understanding of the craft and I feel so much better after each session. "
